Niranjan Ramamurthy

Niranjan looks after the website, search setup and analytics for the Suicide Prevention India Foundation. He is an engineer, not a mental health professional, and his work here is limited to the technical side: keeping the site fast, accessible and online for people who need it.

Why he took the training

He completed QPR Gatekeeper certification in August 2026. Building a website about suicide prevention without having sat through the training seemed like the wrong way round, and the course is short enough that there was no good reason not to.

It has not made him a counsellor, and nothing on this site is written as clinical advice. It did change how the resource pages are worded.

Day job

Outside his volunteer hours, Niranjan runs Adostrophe, a small agency in Bengaluru. Most of its work is Matterport 3D scanning of large physical spaces. The rest is building websites, usually by hand.

How he came to SPIF

He first met SPIF's founder, Nelson, while both were working in search marketing at Yahoo. Years later he helped set up SPIF's Google for Nonprofits Ad Grant, with a narrow objective: make sure that someone searching for crisis support finds an official helpline rather than an advertisement.

He later rebuilt the website, moving it off a heavy content management system onto plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The reasoning was simple. Someone looking for a helpline number on a patchy mobile connection should not wait on a database query.

What he writes here

His contributions to the blog deal with data rather than lived experience. He uses Python to parse public health registries and turn official figures into something readable, and the wording stays deliberately cautious about what a number can and cannot show. Clinical interpretation is left to the mental health professionals on the SPIF team.

Away from work he contributes photography to Wikimedia and publishes Street View panoramas as a Local Guide.

This site is hand-written HTML, CSS and vanilla JavaScript. No framework, no content management system, no build step and no dependencies. It is deployed to Azure Static Web Apps and served through Cloudflare, with analytics processed at the network edge so the page itself stays light.

There is no database, no login and no plugin surface, which is a deliberate choice on a site people reach in difficult moments: the less there is to break, the less there is to break at the wrong time.
